Can you automate Instagram DMs?
Partly. Apps can answer people who message you, and send one private reply to people who comment, but they can't message anyone first. Cold DMs to strangers aren't possible through Instagram's API.
Instagram's messaging API, which every legitimate automation tool uses, allows three things:
- Answering messages, within 24 hours of the person's last message.
- Private replies to comments: one message per comment, within 7 days of it.
- Replies to story mentions and replies, which also count as the person writing first.
What it doesn't allow is starting a conversation with someone who hasn't messaged you or commented. Tools that claim to send cold DMs on Instagram work by controlling a logged-in browser or phone, which breaks Instagram's terms and can get the account restricted.
Automation only works for professional accounts (business or creator), connected to an app Meta has approved for messaging.
