How many hashtags should I use?
Instagram allows five per post or Reel since December 2025, and Threads one topic tag. On TikTok and YouTube, three to five specific tags beat thirty generic ones.
Why no #fyp or #viral?
They describe nothing, so they don't help anyone find your post. Instagram itself has said generic tags like #reels and #explore don't help.
Do hashtags increase reach?
They help people find posts in search and on topic pages. Instagram has said they don't increase reach on their own.
