Is comment-to-DM allowed on Instagram?

Yes. Meta lets apps send one private message to each person who comments on a post or Reel, within 7 days of the comment. It's the official "private replies" feature, not a workaround.

Comment-to-DM ("Comment GUIDE and I'll send it") uses Meta's private replies. When someone comments, an app connected to your account can send them one message in their inbox.

The rules:

  • One message per comment. You can't send a second one unless they reply.
  • Within 7 days of the comment, for posts and Reels. For live videos, only while the live is on.
  • Professional accounts only. It works for Instagram business and creator accounts, through an app Meta has approved for messaging.
  • If they reply, a normal conversation opens, and you can answer within 24 hours of each message they send.

Because it's built into Meta's API, it won't get your account in trouble on its own. What can: sending the same text to hundreds of people, or messages that don't deliver what the post promised.
