Engagement rate, the honest way.

Add up likes, comments, shares and saves, and divide by the number that fits the platform: followers, reach or views. The formula is shown, so every post is measured the same way.

Engagements

Divide by

Best for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, where most viewers don't follow you.

For several posts, enter the totals and how many posts they cover.

Engagement rate

5.39%

528 engagements per post, out of 9,800 views.

The formula

(likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ views × 100

Compare a post with your own last ten, worked out the same way. Other accounts' averages say little, because the rate changes a lot with niche, platform and size.

How it works

  1. 1

Enter the post's likes, comments, shares and saves. Leave out anything the platform doesn't show.

  2. 2

Pick what to divide by. Views is fairest for TikTok, Reels and Shorts; reach for feed posts; followers when that's all you have.

  3. 3

Add several posts' totals and the count to get an average per post.

Questions

Followers, reach or views?

Divide by views for short video, since most viewers don't follow you. Reach works for feed posts. Followers is the easiest to get, but it makes big accounts look worse than they are.

What's a good engagement rate?

It depends on the platform, the niche and the account's size, so other people's averages say little. Compare a post with your own last ten, measured the same way.

Do saves and shares count?

Yes, if the platform shows them. They're often the strongest signal, because they take more effort than a like.
