Why is my X count higher than the number of letters?

X counts every link as 23 characters, whatever its length, and most emoji and characters in Chinese, Japanese and Korean as 2.

How many hashtags can I use on Instagram?

Five. Instagram started limiting posts and Reels to five hashtags in December 2025. Threads allows one topic tag per post.

Why does YouTube count more for some languages?

YouTube's description limit is 5,000 bytes, not characters. Letters with accents take 2 bytes and most Asian characters take 3, so the limit is reached sooner.

Is the count exact?

It follows each platform's published rules. Platforms occasionally count an unusual emoji or symbol differently, so leave a few characters spare when you're right at the limit.
