Is cold DMing allowed on X?
Sending a DM by hand is fine. Automated cold DMs aren't: X's rules ban spam and unsolicited automated messages. Automated replies to people who messaged you first are allowed.
X's API can send DMs to anyone who accepts them, so this is a question of rules, not technology. X's automation rules say:
- Allowed: automated replies to people who message you first.
- Not allowed: sending spam or unsolicited messages in bulk.
Tools that do outreach on X stay on the right side by keeping volume low, writing each message for one person, having a human approve every message, and stopping for anyone who opts out. If X decides the messages are spam, it restricts the account that sent them.
X also filters message requests, so many cold DMs are never seen.
