Does the Threads API support DMs?
No. Threads has DMs in the app since July 2025, but the API has no messaging: apps can post, reply to comments and read insights, not send or read DMs.
Threads added direct messages to the app in July 2025. They aren't in the API: Meta's list of Threads permissions has nothing for messages, and its changelog hasn't added any (checked October 2026).
Meta's Threads API lets apps:
- publish posts, carousels and replies,
- read replies and mentions, and hide or approve replies,
- read insights,
- search public posts by keyword.
So on Threads, the comment-to-DM idea becomes comment-to-reply: answer each commenter publicly, with the link. You can still DM people by hand in the app.
