Facebook is where a lot of your customers still check you out: opening hours, events, what's new this week. But posting there tends to slip, because it's one more app to open after Instagram, and the Page posting screens keep moving around.
The fix is to schedule Facebook posts in one sitting and let them go out on their own. This guide covers where you can schedule (a Page, a group, a profile), the exact steps for each, the things scheduling tools can't do on Facebook, and a sample week you can copy.
What you can schedule, and where
Facebook has more places to post than most platforms, and each one has different rules. Here's how they compare at the time of writing:
| Where you post | Meta Business Suite | Facebook app or website | Scheduling tools |
|---|---|---|---|
| Page post (text, photo, link) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Page Reel | Yes | Yes | Yes, in most tools |
| Page Story | Yes | Depends on the version | Some tools |
| Group post | No | Yes, if you're an admin or moderator | No, since April 2024 |
| Personal profile | Only in professional mode | Only in professional mode | No |
The short version: a Page can be scheduled from almost anywhere, a group only from inside the group, and a personal profile only once you turn on professional mode.
Two of those "No" answers surprise people. Meta removed the API that let outside tools post to groups in April 2024, so no scheduler can post to a group for you any more. And outside tools have long been unable to post to personal profiles. If a tool claims otherwise, be careful what you give it access to.
How to schedule Facebook posts in Meta Business Suite
Meta Business Suite is Meta's free tool for Pages, and it also handles Instagram. On a computer:
- Go to business.facebook.com and pick your Page in the top left.
- Open Planner in the left menu.
- Click Create, then choose a post, Reel or Story.
- Add your text, photos or video. If your Instagram is connected, you can tick it too and post to both.
- Next to Publish, choose Schedule, pick the date and time, and confirm.
Everything you've scheduled shows up in the Planner calendar, where you can drag a post to a new day or open it to edit. The furthest date you can pick has changed over time, so check the date picker if you're planning more than a few weeks ahead.
How to schedule a Page post in the Facebook app
If you're on your phone:
- Switch to your Page (tap your profile picture, then choose the Page).
- Tap Create post and add your text, photos or video, then tap Next.
- Open Scheduling options, choose Schedule for later, and pick the date and time.
- Tap Schedule.
You'll find the post in the Planner afterwards, the same place as posts scheduled from Meta Business Suite. The exact labels shift a little between app versions, but the scheduling choice is always on the last screen before you post.
How to schedule posts in a Facebook group
If you're an admin or moderator, you can schedule posts in the group itself:
- On a computer: open the group, click in the "Write something" box, write your post, then click the calendar or clock icon next to Post and pick a time.
- On your phone: start a post in the group, tap the ⋯ menu, choose Schedule post and set the time.
Scheduled posts sit in a "Scheduled" section that only admins see, where you can edit or cancel them. Members just see a normal post when it goes out.
Because outside tools can't post to groups, group posts are the one part of Facebook you'll always schedule natively. If you run both a Page and a group, schedule the Page from wherever you schedule everything else, and spend five minutes in the group once a week.
What about a personal profile?
You can't schedule posts on a regular personal profile. If you use your profile for business, as many coaches, agents and freelancers do, turn on professional mode in your profile settings. It adds a professional dashboard and lets you schedule through Meta's own tools. You keep your friends and your profile; it doesn't create a separate Page.
A sample week for a Facebook Page
Facebook rewards being useful to locals and regulars. Here's a week for a small bike repair shop that posts three times on its Page. Swap in your own business and keep the mix: one practical post, one that shows the work, one that brings people in.
| Day | Post | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | "Three things to check before your first winter ride" | Photo carousel |
| Thursday | Before and after of a customer's restored bike (with their permission) | Reel |
| Saturday | Weekend hours and a reminder to book a service | Photo with a link |
And here's the Saturday post:
Open today 10 to 4 🚲 Walk-ins welcome for punctures and quick fixes.
Need a full service before winter? Book a slot here: [your booking link]
Unlike Instagram, links in Facebook posts are clickable and show a preview, so put the booking link right in the post. Keep the important part in the first two lines; Facebook cuts longer posts off behind "See more", even though a post can run to 63,206 characters.
If you're a café or restaurant, there's a fuller weekly plan for restaurants and cafés, and the busy season ahead is covered in the holiday social media calendar for 2026.
Scheduling Facebook with your other platforms
Meta Business Suite covers Facebook and Instagram. Once you also post to YouTube, X, Threads or Bluesky, you're opening several apps to schedule what is mostly the same content.
A tool like Freqel lets you write a post once, pick your channels, and give Facebook its own version: a longer text with the link, while Instagram gets the "link in bio" version and X a short one. You can set regular posting times and use "Add to queue" to fill the next free slot, or drag posts around on the calendar. Freqel posts to Facebook Pages; group posts are the ones you'll still schedule inside Facebook. You can even ask ChatGPT or Claude to plan and schedule the week through a social media MCP server.
To pick your times, Meta Business Suite shows when your Page's followers are on Facebook. Our guide to the best times to post explains how to test them, and this guide to writing one post for each platform shows how to adapt the same message.
Common mistakes when you schedule Facebook posts
- Scheduling to the wrong place. If you manage several Pages, check the Page name at the top before you schedule. It's an easy slip in Meta Business Suite.
- Pasting your Instagram caption. "Link in bio" makes no sense on Facebook, where the link works right in the post.
- Posting Reels sideways. Facebook Reels are vertical, 9:16. Export once in that shape and the same file works for Instagram too.
- Forgetting the group. Members of a group often get notified about new posts, so a short, regular group post can matter as much as the Page.
- Not replying. Questions under Page posts are often from people ready to buy or book. Check comments and messages within a few hours.
- Never checking what worked. Once a month, open Insights in Meta Business Suite and note which posts brought clicks and messages. Here are the social media metrics worth tracking.
Wrap-up
Scheduling Facebook posts is mostly about knowing where each kind of post can be scheduled. Pages work from Meta Business Suite, the app or a scheduling tool. Groups only from inside the group. Profiles only in professional mode. Schedule your Page a week at a time (batching it in one sitting helps), add a quick group post if you have one, and if Instagram is part of your week too, here's how to schedule Instagram posts, Reels and Stories.
