How to schedule social media posts with ChatGPT

ChatGPT is good at the writing part of social media. The annoying part comes after: copying each version into Instagram, then X, then Threads, picking times, attaching images. The chat did the thinking and you're still doing the data entry.

With a connector, ChatGPT can do the last step too. You ask, ChatGPT drafts, you confirm, and the post is scheduled on your real accounts. This guide shows how to set it up with Freqel, what to ask, and what it can't do.

How it works

Freqel runs an MCP server, a standard way for AI apps to use outside tools. When you add it to ChatGPT:

• ChatGPT can see the channels you've connected in Freqel (never your passwords)
• It can schedule posts, read your calendar, cancel posts, check your numbers and use your ideas board
• Freqel does the posting. Scheduled posts go out at their time even after you close the chat

You stay in control. ChatGPT asks before it schedules anything, and you can remove the connection at any time.

What you need

• A ChatGPT plan with Developer mode. Custom connectors are available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans, in ChatGPT on the web.
• A Freqel account with at least one channel connected. The Free plan works: 3 social accounts and 10 scheduled posts a month.

Connect Freqel to ChatGPT

1. Turn on Developer mode. In ChatGPT's settings, open the connectors (or apps) section and turn on Developer mode under the advanced options.
2. Create a connector. Name it Freqel and paste https://app.freqel.com/mcp as the server URL. Choose OAuth for authentication if asked.
3. Sign in. ChatGPT opens Freqel's sign-in. Sign in and approve access.
4. Turn it on in a chat. Start a new chat, enable the Freqel connector, and ask for something.

If the tools don't show up, check that you finished signing in, and refresh the connector if you created it before signing in. The ChatGPT setup page has the same steps.

Prompts that work

Be specific about what, where and when, including your time zone.

• Schedule a launch: "Write a launch post for our new ceramic mugs. Schedule it to Instagram, Threads and Facebook tomorrow at 9:00 Stockholm time, and a shorter version for X."
• Plan a week: "Read the ideas in my To Do column and draft one post per weekday next week at 12:00 New York time. Show me the drafts before scheduling."
• Repurpose: "Turn this paragraph from my newsletter into a Bluesky post under 300 characters and a longer Facebook post. Schedule both for Thursday at 18:00."
• Check the calendar: "What's scheduled this week? Did anything fail?"
• Numbers: "Which of my posts got the most comments in the last 30 days?"
• Clean up: "Cancel the post about the October sale."

A good habit: ask for drafts first, read them, then say "schedule them." ChatGPT confirms before posting either way, but reviewing the text is still your job.

Adding images and video

ChatGPT passes media to Freqel as links, not file uploads from the chat:

• Images: public https links to JPEG, PNG or WebP files, up to 8 MB each
• Video: one public https link to an MP4 or MOV file, up to 200 MB
• Freqel copies the files into its own storage, so your link can change later without breaking the post

Platform rules still apply. Instagram needs a photo or video, TikTok and YouTube need a video, and Freqel checks each file against each platform before it schedules. For TikTok, ChatGPT will ask you who can see the video and whether to allow comments, Duet and Stitch, because TikTok expects you to choose those yourself.

If your media is only on your computer, it's often quicker to ask ChatGPT for the text, then attach the files in Freqel's composer.

What it won't do

• Post without your say-so. It confirms first.
• Break your plan's limits. Free plan posts count toward the 10 a month; channels locked on your plan stay locked.
• Ignore character limits. If the X version is over 280 characters, Freqel refuses it and ChatGPT has to shorten it.
• Post to platforms Freqel doesn't support. Today that's Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, Threads, Facebook and Bluesky.
• See your passwords. ChatGPT only gets the Freqel tools you approved.

When to use the chat, and when to use the app

Use ChatGPT when the hard part is the writing: turning a blog post, a product page or a messy note into several platform-ready posts, or planning a week from your ideas. Use Freqel's composer when the hard part is the media: picking the right clip, checking the preview, fine-tuning an Instagram carousel.

Most people end up doing both. The chat drafts and schedules the text-first posts, and the composer handles the visual ones. Both land on the same calendar.
